Choir Concert

Keion had a choir concert, hmmmm about 2 months ago!
I guess it's safe to say that I'm falling behind with this blogging stuff. I thought for sure I would be able to keep it up but I'm still in YW's and with seminary on top of it, well, I just don't have tons of extra time.
Anyway, Keion's concert was a blast. He was such a ham and really is a performer. Most of the pictures I had, he was looking right at us making sure we were watching him.
Some of the songs and dance moved they did had Kylan and I laughing so hard.
Keion has never been afraid to put himself out there, something I NEVER would have done. Come on, this is the same kid who sang the National Anthem BY HIMSELF in front of his whole choir class. Ya, I would NEVER.
Nice vocals and dance moves Keion!

Do you see the kid right in front of the microphone. His cell phone went off in the middle of the program, you should have seen him trying to turn it off. What is with all the kids and their cell phones these days???

Keion is now half way finished with the 6th grade. We can't wait to see his report card!
He is in full swing with his in-door soccer and is also playing on a basketball team. He also plays on the church team against 17 year olds, that will be interesting. He is growing up so fast and he keeps Kylan and I on our toes. So many times he has us dying laughing as well as beaming with pride.
Kylan is working, working and working some more. He is actually on an out-patient Peds rotation so he has been home a lot. We are just counting down the days until he starts the dreaded general surgery rotation. After that, we will never see him. Poor guy is on call today so he won't be home until tomorrow morning. I think Keion and I are going to head to the hospital this afternoon to have lunch with him. Kylan is still playing some bball, xbox 360 (Banjo Kazooie is addicting), hitting the road with @RISK-our family band (rock band), and constantly reading and preparing lectures for work.
Myself, I wake up before the birds, get ready for work, teach seminary, hurry and get Keion up and moving in the 15 minutes I have after seminary and before I leave for work, go to work, get home around 3:00, study my lesson for the next day, somehow come up with something for dinner, keep doing my lesson, help Keion with homework, eat dinner, check email, go to bed- over and over again!
Ok, it's not that bad but my day is pretty packed. By the end of the week I have so many recorded shows that I spend all day Sat. trying to catch up. I may be busy but I don't want to miss my shows!! Seminary is coming along. I'm not sure how much the students enjoy it but I'm learning a ton. Work is great, only half the year left. We are wishing there was a mid-winter break like we had in Seattle. The weather is depressing. I shouldn't complain, the sun has been out the past two days only the temps have been in the negatives. Burrrr.
Chat with you all in another week or so! (wink, wink)

Thurs. Drama

Really, this should never happen to a responsible adult. Well, at least I thought I was responsible.
Thursday after school our students in the alt-ed program had a basketball game. It is a fantastic opportunity for these boys. They play against other alt-ed programs. Yes, it's pretty intense. As you can imagine, most of them know only one way of taking out their frustrations and it tends to get them in trouble on the court as well! But, it's a better way for them to burn some energy and have a way to connect to school. Blah blah blah. Here is the real story.
I picked Keion up after school and headed back to the gym. Once I got their I realized I forgot my camera and the other teachers didn't have one so I volunteered to run home and grab mine because I live right by the high school.
On the way back to my house the car started acting funny. I remembered that I was low on gas (the gage has been on the fritz working off and on for several weeks) and according to the mileage, just about due for a refill. This was not good.
I was about a mile from my house when I tried to make a run for the gas station. I didn't make it.
Fortunately, I was able to pull into a medical plaza and make it off the road, forbid that I have to plug up traffic and make someone push me.
It didn't help that the temps were below zero. I think around -3 degrees. Yes, pleasant. To top it off, Keion was still at the gym keeping score of the game.
I tried to call Kylan but he was working in the next town and wouldn't make it back in time. I still had to get the camera and get back to the gym.
I called on my friend Sara to help me out. I had her meet me at my house because I was running home, in the freezing cold, with my stiletto boots, with snow up to my knees. All true.
It really wasn't that bad except my hands were on fire as well as my lungs-boy am I out of shape!
I was able to get a hold of Kylan and he put gas in the tank while I was at the game. Yes, it was a gas issue. I'm going to refill sooner from now on. I can't remember the last time I ran out of gas, actually, I do but it was a loooooong time ago. I really thought I was more responsible. Guess not!
I did make it back in time to snap a couple pics of the kids playing.
They won. Yeah.

Here is Keion trying to keep score. It was well worth it for the free candy he got after the game.

This is Christy (left, teacher I work with, she is amazing) and the vice principal.
I spy Sara. Are you having fun??? Thank you for bailing me out.

Have I mentioned that I just love my job?

The Perks

Sometimes being a doctor has its perks.
Our friend Micah took a side job being the team doctor for the local, semi-pro hockey team.
With that came 7 tickets behind the home team bench. Luckily they invited us to come too.
Here is Micah, on the spot, ready to deal with any injuries. I was just hoping that no one would get one of those nasty slices to the neck.

Sara brought treats to share and the boys quickly stuffed their faces.

Here they are getting ready to throw the puck in the center to win a prize.
Unfortunately I took this picture too hastily and focused on this guys HUGE head and not the kids.

The team we were cheering for lost. No biggie. The boys had a blast and we always enjoy hanging out with our friends.
Now we just need to find the docs who have the season tickets to the REAL hockey games!

New Calling

I'm in shock.
Before we were even able to sit in the pew at church, a stake rep. came up to Kylan and I and asked if he could visit with us for just a minute. (church had already started)
I knew Kylan was going to get something big. The bishop called last week and asked about our work schedules so I knew something was up.
I just got put in as the First Counselor in the YW's about 1 1/2 months ago so I felt pretty safe.
As it turns out...

I just got called to be the seminary teacher. (early morning)
What?? ( you should see my glazed over eyes and blank stare, I hope someday it will go away!)

New Years

The three major "F"s to a ringing in a successful new year. FRIENDS, FOOD, FUN!
This year we had all three, so it looks like we are off to a good start. You won't be seeing Keion in any of these pictures as he spent his first New Years away from his parents.
They had a youth activity that he went to instead of hanging with us.
Wii Fit is no joke. Those of you who have tried it can attest to the work-out you can get from doing it.
Kylan and Dan are really enjoying watching the girls play Wii. Kylan is playing on his iPhone, of course.

MarioKart was a mad battle, first with the girls and then the guys.

The guys also had a bout of ping-pong. Those days of playing in the lounge during medical school are paying off. (You K-ville girls all know what I'm talking about, how many of your husbands bought new paddles and balls while they were there??)
Sara said her mom would be appalled by the looks of these brownies she made. So if you are reading this just know that I didn't take the best picture and these brownies were heavenly. A gooey mess for Sara to dish up but oh-so yummy. (I think Sara gets her hostessing skills from her mom!!)
The wild crazy party animals..well most of us!
I haven't really thought about my New Years resolutions. I know I want to get back to running, as soon as some of this snow melts. I hope my leg/butt muscle is completely healed. Kristi, if you don't get in the St.George marathon let's do a different one. I really want to do one. Just to say I've done it. What I would really like to do is run 2 my whole life. One to qualify for Boston and Boston.
I'll have to think about it some more. Running that much means I have to sacrifice time with the family and with Kylan's work schedule time together is a treat I don't want to give up easily.
Everything else on this end is going well. The semester is almost over and that means we are half way done with the school year. Where does the time go?
I hope you all are enjoying 2009 as much as we are.

picture problems

Is it just me or is it difficult to load pictures to blogger right now?
I wanted to post some pics from New Years but it isn't working.
To top it off, I thought maybe it was how I originally loaded the pics to my desk top so I went back and completely rebooted them from my camera. What a freakin' waste of time.
So maybe check back later or tomorrow and I'll see if I can get them up.
Until then...

Hair All Over

Keion has a book called, Uncle John's Bathroom Reader...For Kids Only.
It is such a fun book and once Keion saw it at the store, he had to have it.
The topics in this book range from facts about creatures, things around the house, worldly matters, animals, a section called "just weird" and many others.
You would love it!
Here is part of a section I found interesting:

-Studies show that boys' hair grows faster than girls'.

-Fish scales, reptile scales, fingernails, and feathers are made of the same stuff as hair.

-Spiders are hairy all over

-The hairiest animal in the world is the chinchilla. It has about 60 hairs sprouting from each hair follicle.

-Hair grows faster in warm weather.

-From on strand of hair, scientists can determine what you eat, if you smoke, and your ethnic orgin. What they can't tell: your gender.

-In Costa Rica, women decorate their hair with fireflies. (those of us who have actually seen a firefly, know that they are a lot bigger than what people think, GROSS)

-Any creature with skin or fur can get dandruff, but when an animals get it it's called "dander".

-Shirley Temple's hairstyle had exactly 56 curls.

-Crabs are equipped with small hairs on their claws that help them detect vibrations and water currents.

-Leila's Hair Museum in Independence, MO., specializes in antique jewelry made of hair. (double gross)

-A single strand of hair can support 100 grams of weight, about the weight of 20 Hershey Kisses. Based on that fact, an entire head of hair-about 130,000 hairs-should technically be able to lift two full-grown elephants. (But don't try it.)

We are all so worried about our hair, the style, color, thickness... I never even thought of this stuff though.
I have some pics of New Years and Keion's choir concert yet to post. I've just been so lazy and my vacation is about to come to an abrupt end. Oh, help me.
