The end of 6th grade

Keion's days as a 6th grader, are numbered.
It's weird to think that he is going to be in 7th grade. Man, he is getting old. Argg, that means I'm getting older too!
The end of the year is packed with tons of work but fun stuff too.
The other night was his final choir concert. Keion filled in last minute for a kid who didn't show up to do his part. Funny thing was, he was better than most of the other kids and had the lines memorized already. He's a natural on stage and a wonderful speaker.

Friday night the 6th graders had a dance/party. It is typically called "teen time" where the kids get to hang out and play games after school. This one was from 6-9 and had a dance with it, a first for these little 6th graders. It was to prepare them for the dances and things they would be able to attend next year.
I'm not worried at all about Keion at the dances. Why? Well, the only place he could be found the whole night was in the gym playing basketball! They had a 3 on 3 tourney going and he and his buddies played non-stop. Forget dancing and girls. Good boy.
This is a kid in Keion's class. Check out that hair! Yes, it is all his.
I love this shot of the dance floor. Typical of a middle school dance. All girls, no boys! Ok, maybe there were 2 boys in there and they were the smart ones.
Keion is also getting an award at an assembly next Monday. He was on the A-B Honor roll all year. He has done well for moving, trying to find his way in this new place and maintaining good grades and being a good kid. The only sad part is the fact that he continues to grow up. What will we ever do without you Keion?
Kylan says TRAVEL!

Memorial Weekend

Besides soccer all weekend, we were able to get away for a moment down by the lake with our friends.
We arrived just in time for smores.

Keion had fun skipping rocks. And I had a blast catching some of the biggest fish I've ever caught.

What? You don't believe I caught them. What would ever give you that idea?!!
Ok. I didn't really catch them but I should get some major bonus points for holding those things as closely as I did. I'm not too scared of fish but these babies were BIG and still wiggling around. Ewwww.
Hanging out with the Higbee's and Leonard's is always a fun time. I can't wait to go camping this summer. I love it and there are a lot of cool places to camp around here.
Two weeks left of school and two weeks until we head out to Idaho.
Seminary is over so that is a relief. I never thought waking up at 6:00 am would be considered sleeping in, but it is!

Canton Cup

This past weekend Keion had a soccer tournament in Canton.
It was HUGE. There were over 500 teams participating in the tourney. It was a lot of fun.
In Keion's second game he had a hat trick. For those of you who don't know soccer lingo, this means he had 3 goals!
The final score was 3-2.
Here is a sequence of one of his goals.
I didn't get the ball going in the net but this is where Keion scored.
This is where he celebrated!

You have to click on the images to make them larger, the opponents face was just too funny. (I've not learned how to make the pictures the super large size)

This was his second goal. The goalie came out on the ball and Keion got a foot on it. It bounced off to the side and Keion chased it down and put it in the net..again!

His celebratory (is this a word?) actions became more exuberant with each goal.
In this next sequence of pictures keep an eye on the guy to Keion's right. He and Keion were going at it all game and as you can imagine he was getting a little frustrated with the fact that Keion was blowing right by them.

So this wasn't the first time the kid fouled Keion. So guess what...
He got a yellow card and I was loving it. See the ref pulling out his yellow card? The other parents were laughing at me for taking pictures!
Here is another picture of Keion getting knocked down. They were playing a division up so some of the boys were 14 years old. That is a big difference at this age.

Check out this kids glasses.
Keion is getting a warning. Let me tell you, when the big guys try to knock him around because he is younger and smaller, he doesn't take it and will hold his ground. It's awesome.
They didn't end up winning the whole thing but played well. Keion had a great tournament so he was happy.
Lately our weekends have been taken up with soccer games. I'm not going to complain the weather was beautiful and the parents of the players on the team are so much fun. Kylan was at work all weekend so he missed all the action.
Kylan was also suppose to be getting Lasik surgery today but the doctor had an emergency. Hopefully he will be able to have it done tomorrow.
I have one more day of early morning seminary, YAHHHOOO!
Waking up at 6:00 is going to be like heaven and that is sad.

Sike

I've just spent over an hour loading pictures just to have it stink out on me.
I'm hoping that it's the blog site and not one of my pictures causing the problem.
Either way, I've had enough for tonight and I'm going to bed.
I'll try again tomorrow. Sorry to disappoint.
Stupid blog.

Traverse City Soccer Tourney

The pictures are a little out of order but I don't care. I'm lucky to even have time to get them posted!
Norther Michigan is so beautiful. Everyone in the state goes on vacation "up north". It is all they say when you ask where the are going for the weekend, really, EVERYONE. Now I know why. It is such a breath of fresh air, literally!
I'm so use to seeing flat land that being in even slightly elevated terrain is super exciting.
The boys played extremely well in the tournament. They were playing up a level with the U-13 group.
We lost one, won one and tied one.
The best part of the tourney...hanging out with the boys afterwards.

Keion did score a goal in the first game when they won.

The city has the cutest downtown. So many fun shops and places to eat. We hit Bubba's for lunch before we left. They have their very own Bubba sauce that they think is a secret. Well guess what, it's not, it is nothing but good ol' fry sauce!! No one in the east knows about fry sauce, it's a western condiment but someone must have picked up on it and brought it back.
I was loving the greasy basket of tater-tots dipped in fry sauce, I mean Bubba's sauce. he hee he
This is Lake Michigan. It's HUGE. We didn't get in the water because it was still too cold outside but it looked like it would be a lot of fun. A couple of sailboats were out on the lake but that was about it.
You know when your kids have given it their all when they fall asleep in less than a minute of being in the car.
The truth is, Keion never falls asleep. I can still count on one hand how many times he has taken a nap since Kylan and I got married. It is a rarity. He was tuckered out. I even tried to wake him up to take him to a fun ice cream shop Kylan and I tried and he said he would rather sleep. WHAT?, where is Keion and what have you done with my son???
We had such a blast. It has been some time since we have all been able to hang out for more than just an evening. Gen. surgery is starting to take its tole. I didn't think it was so bad at first but now it is just dragging on. I know it is even a thousand times worse for Kylan.
He is on call AGAIN this weekend. He will get off early on Mon. morning so that will be nice.
Keion has another soccer tourney. Should be fun.
We are getting excited to visit family and friends in June. We have two new additions to the family that we have never seen so we can't wait to meet them in person and kiss their faces off. Plus we will see all of our other cute nephews and nieces. Yeah.
I will try to be a better blogger but I'm making no promises. These next couple weeks are going to be crazy busy.
